Having worked in collaboration with key KCCWG stakeholders including PANERECC, Office of the Prime Minister, The Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources and the MACODEP CBO and the other local community CBOs in lower Tana coastal region, the Kenya Climate Change Working Group, KCCWG managed to hold the Malindi Climate hearing.
The event took place at the Eden Rock Hotel, Malindi. An assistant Minister, Hon. Prof Margaret Kamar, in her key note address applauded the Office of the Prime Minister, the Parliamentarians Network on Renewable Energy and Climate Change- PANERECC-, and the Kenya Climate Change Working Group-
KCCWG- for managing to bring together such a rich participation, towards discussing and agreeing on a way forward on Climate Change interventions at the coastal region and Kenya as a whole. She outlined the role that the government, through NEMA, Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Finance and Planning and the various parliamentary committees in tackling climate change in Kenya.
The meeting brought together a total of 150 participants, with 100 local participants, 12 reporters, 18 KCCWG members from other parts of Kenya, 4 MPs (Hon. Dr Wilbur Ottichilo, Hon. Chachu Ganya, Hon. David Koech and Hon. Prof. Margaret Kamar, an Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources). The KCCWG thematic groups were represented. The local area MP send a representative and the Mayor of Malindi opened the meeting while the DO Malindi gave the closing remarks.
The morning was dedicated to sharing facts about climate change by various resource people and the afternoon was dedicated to hearing testimonies as well as suggestions from the local communities, facilitated by Hon. Dr Ottichilo.

KEY RECOMENDATIONS
· Hold such awareness and sensitization hearings throughout the country- all counties
· Finalize the Climate Change bill for Kenya being worked on
· Focus on grassroots communities to enable them adapt to climate change
· Mobilize and bring together all stakeholders for sustained climate change initiatives in Kenya
· Kenya and Africa should advocate for a Fair, Achievable and Balanced deal in Cancun.
